Big news in the Two Places at Once world. Big, exciting, life changing news. We’re moving to New York City!
I’m sure you’re wondering why the heck we’re moving. Great question! If you’ve been following along with this blog for a little while, you may already know that my husband, Bud, was pursuing a PhD in Geology at UT Austin. That’s what moved us to Austin from Florida in the first place (and gave me the idea for the name of the blog!). Well, Bud wrote his dissertation, defended his research, and graduated last month. Hooray! Because of the fabulous work he completed, he was offered an amazing position at Columbia University and begins in July.
It’s bittersweet to leave Austin. I truly consider this our home. The city and its people have meant so much to us over the last five years. We’ve built up a wonderful community that I will miss dearly. But, we have an exciting adventure ahead!
We have a lot to accomplish in the next month. Fortunately, we have a sublet for the month of July, but we still need to find a more permanent living situation. I’m also in the process of finding a full time job. We’ve also been getting ride of A TON of stuff. We assume we’ll be in a pretty tiny apartment in the city so we’re trying to consolidate our stuff as much as possible before packing up. While it’s been intimidating and overwhelming at times, I’m trying to focus on the next adventure. I know it will be stressful, but we have so much to look forward to in a new city.
Over the next few weeks, it may be a little quieter on the blog. I hope to get back to a regular posting schedule once we move and get settled in New York. In the meantime, I’d love your suggestions on must-try restaurants and things to do once we’re in New York!
